REPLACE WATER IN COOKING AND DRINKING WITH MILK AND FRUIT JUICES
INCREASE PROTEIN IN THE DIET:
MILK:
- Try adding skim milk powder to milk, making it double strength.
- Add ice cream to milk.
- Try Instant Breakfast with milk.
- Use evaporated milk, half and half, or cream to make casseroles, hot cereals, sauces, gravies, puddings, milkshakes, and soups.
- Yogurt is high in protein.
EGGS:
- Eggs are a good source of protein. Try them in eggnogs or milkshakes. Make sure eggs are properly refrigerated and have no cracks in them prior to use.
- Add eggs to salads, casseroles and sauces. Try eating deviled eggs.
- Try desserts with eggs, angel food cake, sponge cake, custard, and cheesecake.
MEAT, POULTRY, AND FISH:
- Add these foods to salads, casseroles, and sandwiches.
- Try strained and junior baby meats.
- Cocktail wieners and deviled ham on crackers make good snacks.
CHEESE:
- Use cheese on sandwiches, as a snack or as cheesespread on crackers.
- Add cheese to casseroles, sauces, salads, or baked potatoes.
- Cheesecake has protein
